You must be 17 years of age to earn your Private Pilot License. There is no maximum age limit.
In the civilian world the FAA only requires 20/40 or better corrected vision for Private Pilots. If you would like to be a professional pilot the requirements are 20/20 but can still be corrected using glasses or contacts.
We try to train 2-3 times a week depending on weather. Each lesson is scheduled to be an hour long. Overall, you can anticipate the training to take 4-6 months to complete. The FAA requires 40 hours of flight time for Private Pilot. However the national average is closer to 60 hours. Plan on at least 50-60 hours of flight training before you are ready to take the test.
All sorts of people with medical conditions are able to get an FAA medical. Heart conditions, diabetes etc. will not stop you from being a pilot. You will have to take extra steps for a medical but it can be done.
Choosing a Flight Instructor in order to achieve your dream of becoming a pilot is an important decision. Meet with an instructor to determine if they will be a good match for you. If not, it is recommended for you to search out a different instructor.
A good question to ask a flight instructor is what are their aviation goals? Most flight instructors use teaching as a way to build hours to get a job with the airlines. Meaning that once they get their hours they may leave in the middle of your training. My only goal is to make pilots and am not working towards an aviation career other than being an instructor. I won't leave you during your training.
